One Synth Challenge #4

Mantra Island

VPS Avenger 2

The VPS Avenger 2 is a modern virtual synthesizer that falls into the category of what I call « Power Synths ».

I knew from the start that the numerous possibilities offered by the plugin would give me a lot of flexibility. By choosing "Mantra Island," I was working on a rather distinctive track. Here, the idea was to develop a different, much more synthetic sound atmosphere, while keeping the structure of the piece (except for the very end, which on the album provides the transition to the next track) but drastically reducing the number of tracks used.

What I think about this synth

Avenger 2 is a synth that tends to be used in areas like dance music, techno, trance, or simply anything that is very (very) electronic. This is evident from the numerous presets provided by default. But beyond this generality, the power of the instrument makes it an incredible playground for any sound design enthusiast. It can do a lot, with a modular architecture and many methods of sound generation. In short, it’s a nice little monster that, in my opinion, sits halfway between Arturia Pigments and UVI Falcon.

I use it extensively in the production of "Forgotten Stories," for setting up homemade samples or neo-classical instruments that stray from the usual sound bank "standards." Its architecture is rich but easy to grasp, and I have a lot of fun creating sounds with this synth.

Backstage

The Studio One session contains 18 instances of Avenger 2. I used very few factory presets. I created a few patches specifically for the challenge and used others that I had already created beforehand for "Forgotten Stories."

Once again, only the plugin’s effects were used on the session tracks.
